Farming for Wholesale Workshop

Maine Farmland Trust Announces Farming for Wholesale 101 Workshops in Early 2020

This track is for experienced farmers who currently sell wholesale and want to expand, and farmers who want to start selling to wholesale markets.

Drawing on a panel of business experts from around the state, as well as other growers, we’ll uncover the story your financial records are telling you, and develop your ability to talk with potential wholesale buyers about your products.  See mainefarmlandtrust.org for more information about all the workshops.

Below is the module geared specifically for dairy producers and farmers.

CREAMERY COHORT

This track is for experienced value-added dairy producers and farmers who currently sell wholesale and want to expand, and who want to start selling to wholesale markets.

Drawing on a panel of business experts from around the state, as well as other producers, we’ll uncover the story your financial records are telling you, and develop your ability to talk with potential wholesale buyers about your products.

During the program, you will:

Participate in 3 day-long workshops with a cohort focused on value-added dairy production
Work with a service provider for up to 20 hours of business planning assistance, tailored to fit your goals
Receive a $1,000 seed grant when you complete the program

Sunday + Monday, January 26-27th & Sunday, February 2nd

(Snow date: February 9th)

Cost: $500 registration fee. Upon completion of the workshops and your successful participation in technical assistance, you will be awarded a $1,000 seed grant. There is a net gain of $500 to your farm!

Milk Quality Workshop with Gary Anderson

Milk Quality Workshop with Gary Anderson – Thursday, October 30th at State of Maine Cheese Company  – 9am to 5pm

We will spend the day reviewing the biosynthesis of milk and udder anatomy. We will go over managed milking guidelines, milk storage, transport and evaluating milk quality. Specifically, we will cover the handling of milk from the animal to the container to maintain high quality. We will go over different milking systems and the tenets of cleaning and sanitizing milk handling equipment highlighting equipment areas for special consideration. We will finish the day reviewing lab reports, what they mean and goals for bacteria, somatic cells and adulterants. This will be a very full day of interactive discussions.
