Maine State Reception in August

state_seal_smIn 2010 Maine will host the 50th Annual Meeting of the Council of State Governments’ Eastern Regional Conference (CSG/ERC). In preparation of this big event, the State of Maine is planning a “teaser” reception at this year’s meeting in Burlington, VT and would very much like to feature Maine cheese (along with other Maine foods) at that reception.

They are expecting around 300 people to attend this reception, which will be held August 4th. Given that number I “guess-timated” that 10 pounds of cheese (among all the other food) would suffice. The Maine State Legislature (who is coordinating the events) is looking for donations, but is willing to pay for cheese if that would ensure a good turnout. The cheese will need to be shipped to the Burlington Hilton, and they are definitely willing to reimburse for the shipping costs. Given that the reception is on a Tuesday, and the caterers have asked that all food arrive at least the day before the event, the cheese would realistically need to be shipped to arrive on Friday, July 31st.

Of course they are also interested in having the Maine Cheese Guild participate in the 2010 event (to take place in Portland) as well; I’ll have more info on that event as it approaches.

New Market Idea in Waterville

Waterville will christen the “Barrels Community Market” at 74 Main St. on June 21st — an indoor market offering local food year round. The Waterville Sentinel highlighted the participation of the Kennebec Cheesery in their article last week covering their April 22 open house:

“I think it’s going to be a wonderful addition to downtown,” said Kimberly N. Lindlof, president and chief executive officer of the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce. “It should really complement existing businesses such as Jorgensen’s and Joseph’s Market and be a real asset to the restaurants that are here.”

    • 75 gallon bulk tank all working Used here for 4 years. Great starter tank. $600
    • 100 and a 150 gal bulk tanks Never run here but running when removed from farm. Still have freon in them so that is a good sign!! Could be used for vats or whatever your mind could think up. I have many ideas. $250 each
    • Large hot water heating unit for cheese plant. Actually a swimming pool heater! Ran everything here and cheaply. Needs to be installed out of doors and we didn’t have the room anymore. Many new parts. Cost over $2,000 will sell with many installation parts for $700.
    • Just bought many reg. Sannens from a milking herd that shows some not the other way around. Excellant bloodlines. Great herd buck prospects and some does. KIDS
    • Also many purebred Alpines this year. Many from Tom Cox bloodlines. Some does are 12 years old so that says a lot! Contact us at [email protected].
